My New Children’s Books

Dear Friends,

Many of you don’t know that one of my greatest passions in life is educating children. It began when I was nine years old. My little brother was born and I had to help care for him as both of my parents worked six days a week. I wanted my brother to be the happiest and healthiest boy possible. I took my new chore so seriously that I checked out several parenting books from the local library, and read them. I became really good at quoting some famous teachers and I even attempted giving my parents advice, at which they only smiled. The opportunity to watch my brother grow fascinated me and made me aware of the unlimited power of education. I witnessed how every spoken word affected my little brother and realized that a child can be either empowered or weakened for a lifetime by every word he hears. Children and their development became the most interesting subject for me in my life.

I became a professional teacher and worked at several public schools. Since I didn’t like the controlling environment of the public school system, I became self-employed, but my work has always been connected to children and family. My very first business in Moscow was called Parents and Children. It grew fast, employed thousands of families and was so successful that in 1985 I was invited to go to Paris and speak in front of the French Union of Student Cooperatives. At that time I had two KGB officers accompanying me during my 5-day trip abroad. The result of this venture was an amendment to the Russian Constitution, which allowed children over the age of 12 to be paid for their labor. Prior to that, children in the Soviet Union were not allowed to be paid for their work. Perhaps I will share more of this story another time. In the late 1980’s I established my first Russian-American joint venture, which was called Family Works. My current company is called Raw Family.

I travel a lot around the world, for example, last year I visited 22 countries. I am concerned about children’s health in many countries, particularly in the United States. It is not easy for American children to be healthy. According to UCLA, during Saturday morning cartoons, children see an average of one food advertisment every five minutes. As many as 95 percent of them advertise foods with poor nutritional value. The food industry spends $10 billion a year marketing to childreni.

I don’t have $10 billion, but I would like to do something to counteract unhealthy messages coming from the TV screen. I am beginning to publish books for children that contain healthy messages. However, I don’t want children to view these books as the books about health. Rather my intention is to create entertaining tales and keep the message about healthy eating subtle. Also, I would like to keep the prices for children books reasonable.

Today I am happy to announce that my first two children's books are in print and will become available on April 10th, 2011.

A Gift from Little Bear is an entertaining story accompanied by playful, authentic illustrations that convey a healthy message to children.
Fruits I Love is a book of delightful rhymes and whimsical drawings that will inspire any child to love fruits.

Raw Food Summer Camp for Kids

My good friend, Storm Talifero, author of "The Garden Diet", is working on the first raw food summer camp for kids! He writes: "When you do retreats a lot of the time you are helping people to heal from different chronic conditions which can also be very rewarding, but when you work with kids you are helping to give them the tools and information so that they won’t develop those same chronic conditions later on in their lives. We are realizing that the demand for a raw vegan wilderness summer camp is truly great."

The 21-Day Green Smoothie Detox

I would like to remind you that a Green Smoothie Detox on-line starts in eight days.

You may encourage your children to drink at least one smoothie per day during 21 days of this detox. You can read and discuss emails and recordings with them. This could be your family project.

During this event I will be sending you my articles, along with some notes from my retreats and some of my favorite recipes. Tera has a lot of experience in organizing on-line programs about which I have heard highly positive feedback. You will receive daily support from both of us on many different levels.

The 21-Day Green Smoothie Detox starts on March 21st, 2011.
