Green Smoothies with Dry Fruit
Dear friends,At this time of the year it can be difficult to find fruit to prepare green smoothies to achieve a great texture. My favorite fruits, mangoes and papayas are often sold unripe and overpriced in February. After using mostly bananas for about a month I was in search of a different flavor. After circling around a seasonally limited fruit section for 15 minutes, I decided to experiment with dry fruits. I bought apricots, prunes, persimmons, and mangoes, dried analogues of my favorite fresh fruits that make the texture of a smoothie perfect. The results were delicious. Just remember to soak your dried fruits in water for about an hour to soften them a little, so that they are easy on your blender. You may use the soaking water in your smoothie preparation as well. Enjoy this generic recipe.
Green Smoothies with Dry Fruit
1 bunch green lettuce
1 ripe apple
1 handful dry fruit (soaked for one hour prior)
3 cups water (add more if mixture is too thick)
Blend well.
Yields 2 quarts
Green for Life Audio CD Sale
Do you listen to audiobooks while driving? I do. For that reason, I have recorded my book Green for Life (first edition) on 3 CDs.
Green for Life includes the latest information on the abundance of protein in greens, the benefits of fiber, the role of greens in homeostasis, the significance of stomach acid, how greens make the body more alkaline, the healing power of chlorophyll, and more. Also included are the results of a pilot study demonstrating the effectiveness of adding just one quart of green smoothies a day to one’s diet, without changing anything else in dietary intake. Green smoothie testimonials and recipes give readers confidence and motivation in exploring green smoothies for themselves.
Rachel Fox, RD, comments on this book:
"As a nutrition professional I frequently discover new diets and eating habits. Many claim to offer optimal health or weight loss, disease control or the next thing. I find myself reading diet books with a certain skepticism Victoria Boutenko’s research finds many benefits to adding green smoothies to the daily diet... I highly recommend reading Green for Life, and trying the smoothies, to anyone. If your health is declining, your weight is increasing or decreasing unexpectedly, or if you would like overall health benefits of amazing greens…read this book!"
Starting today and through the end of this week, we offer a "Buy one, get one free" offer on Green for Life Audio CD set.
