Watermelon candy

½ regular sized watermelon
½ cup lemon juice

Peel and slice the watermelon into ½ inch slices. Dip the slices in lemon juice and place them on a dehydrator tray. Dehydrate for 14 hours. (There is no need to remove watermelon seeds, as they become crunch and yummy after drying).

A personal Note from Victoria-Emails corrupted!

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your ongoing support of my work. After my previous newsletter in July, I received so many thousands of emails that my computer crashed and is still in the shop. Luckily I was able to recover the most important data. That is why I couldn’t send a newsletter in August, and am now combining August and September into one newsletter.

Next Teleconference.

Our first teleconference was very successful. You can read some feedback at the end of this newsletter.  We answered your questions for two hours, however, many questions were left unanswered. That is why we have scheduled another teleconference, to be held on September 29, at 10 AM Pacific Standard Time.

To sign up for the upcoming teleconference, please click here. The first teleconference is available for purchase for  $4.99, on our website www.rawfamily.org.  This is an instant download so there is no delay or shipping charges.

Report onSending Books to Your Libraries.

We have received over 500 requests for donations of our book Green for Life to libraries. So far we have sent out 120 books, to those whose requests we received in the first two days after we announced our intent to donate in last month’s newsletter. From now on, we will be sending books to libraries as the slightly damaged books are returned to us from the stores. Please note: before sending your request for a book donation, please ask your library first to make sure they will accept it. One was returned by a library that didn’t want it. Also, if you are requesting to donate to a library in a different country, please consider sending a donation towards freight, because I had to pay $13 for each book that was sent to the libraries in Australia and the United Kingdom.Overall, we (the Raw Family) are very happy about this experience of donating books. Everyone on my staff donated some time in order to offset the expenses. We are now beginning to receive thankful letters from people who are borrowing these books from the libraries.

Report on my book Green Smoothie Revolution.

We have a beautiful cover for the Green Smoothie Revolution book, which we will send to you in the next newsletter, together with preorder information.

Natural Water Birth.

About thirty years ago, I was helping a young Russian scientist, Igor Charkovsky, who invented water child birth. I was typing questionnaires for pregnant women for him for a short time. I was fascinated by the dedication of this young man, who built a 16 square ft. glass aquarium in his cramped Russian flat. He constantly filmed  pregnant women sitting for hours and giving birth in that aquarium. Often he brought women who were already in labor, crying out with pain. It was amazing how their pain decreased by simply getting in the warm water. Because of his influence, my younger children Sergei and Valya learned how to swim before they learned to walk. Now, after 30 years, I was thrilled to meet his protégé here in Ashland, Oregon, Elena Vladimirova, who has developed his teaching to a new level.  Elena has gifted me with her stunningly beautiful film, featuring 11 natural births, including home water birth of twins, breech delivery and a self-birth in the Black Sea, at home and in the hospital. I recommend visiting her website: www.birthintobeing.com

Wild Edible of the Month by Sergei Boutenko

Common Name:  Thimbleberry

Latin Name:  Rubus parviflorus

Description:  Grow in shrubs ranging from 2 to 8 feet tall.Form dense thickets. Leaves have between 3 to 5 lobes and closely resemble maple leaves. Thimbleberries have white flowers with five petals each. The berries are red and look a lot like raspberries except that their overall shapeis flatter (like a raspberry that has been compressed).

Habitat: Thickets of Thimbleberries grow in moist, wooded areas in the lower mountainous regions. They grow best in cool environment and therefore prefer shade. Thimbleberries can be found from the Alaska Pan handle all the way down to Southern California.

Food:  The berries are edible and very delicious. They have a sweet and nutty taste that is both unique and fragrant. Flowers are also edible and make a delicious addition to salads. Thimbleberry leaves can be used either fresh or dried in herbal teas!

Nutrition:  Throughout history, Thimbleberries have been used to treat intestinal ailments and upset stomachs. When roots are dried and prepared in tea form, they are great for diarrhea and dysentery.

Recipe: Thimbleberry Salad:

1 head of romaine lettuce(chopped)
1 navel orange (seeded andthinly sliced)
½ pint of freshly pickedThimbleberries
¼ cup pine nuts

Mix all ingredients in bowl. Decorate with edible flowers or colorful fruit.

Dressing:

2 Tablespoons olive oil
1 Tablespoon balsamic vinegar
1 teaspoon agave syrup
½ teaspoon sea salt

Thoroughly mix ingredients in small bowl or jar and pour over top of salad.
Serves:  2

Read what others saidabout our first Teleconference

Dear Victoria,
Thank you for your wonderful sharing. l am so glad that you did such a presentation, and with such a user-friendly format. l was sitting at my desk,in my home, and listening to you answer all those interesting questions. And what was so wonderful, you got to be in your home, with your wonderful family, with no burnout, and hectic travelling, and once you had finished the call, you could carry on and be right at home. l found the answering of questions, and the staying on track with the main points of the question to be most effective.l feel that most people wanted to hear you and have you answer their questions, and to do it in the format of having earlier submit those questions, saved us all from having to listen to people labor on and on, asking and verbalizing too much. This way it was to the point, and Valya did a wonderful job, of askingy ou the questions. Slow and clear. l felt so good and inspired after the Sunday10am meeting. A great way to start the day. Hopefully, you will do it again.

l am glad that you did not"open the mike" for too long, as often, some people just want to keep talking and that becomes tedious and boring.

Thank you and your family for the wonderful and healthy service they provide so many people. Next time you are scheduling a teleconference, please let us know as much in advance as possible, so that we can circulate the information.

Thank you Victoria for your teleconference!! It was great! Please do it again. I appreciate being able to listen on the internet instead of using up free minutes on my cell. I really appreciate what you are doing for all us RAW foodists.

Hugs to you and your wonderful family.

Teleconference was excellent.  Questions Valya read were excellent.  I like it better when she reads them because it takes less time than when people ask and talk about themselves.

Thanks so much.

I just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful teleconference. I signed up because it was so affordable, and I hope you will consider doing it again in the future.

Victoria, I am listening to it now.  It is wonderful.  I am hoping that my husband will be interested in listening to it too.  Have a great day!  Blessings,

Hi Victoria, I want you to know that you did great on your first Teleconference as did your kids.   It was a little hard to hear Sergei as he seemed to be in the back of the room.   As you continue to do them, they will gomore smoothly. You were right on track to go through all of your emails and lump together ones that were very similar i.e. Vit. B12; thinning hair ,benefits from green smoothies, etc.  That saves a lot of time for you and we the listeners get more questions answered.  Have an absolutely fabulous day!

-A. R.
